This is it for now but I might add more stuff if I keep getting more questions that I feel the need to include :D!!

Before everything, I recommend reading this post if you haven't already! I explain the basics of this AU there and that might have already answered some stuff :>!

This post is for both common questions I keep getting AND things I consider important that all of you know :D

I KNOW I’M A LITTLE LATE TO ACTUALLY POSTING ABOUT THIS BUT SEAM NATION WE WON SO HARD WITH THIS

There’s a lot here that’s really telling about them too!! Abandonment seems to be a reoccurring theme with Seam’s character. Seam was abandoned by the lightners who owned them in the light world, and this has obviously affected them — Toby saying that Seam “wouldn’t believe” that anyone would want a plush of them, their magic being described as “dusty” like an item that hasn’t been touched in a long time, and we already know how they had to imprison Jevil, their closest companion.

I think a lot of their dialogue and behaviors show how this has impacted them

They’ve been collecting items for years, but they don’t get attached to any of them.

They believe that in their discarded state, that there’s no place for them in the world. Especially considering they lost their companionship with both lightners and the one darkner they formed a bond with.

When saying goodbye, they anticipate never seeing you again.

They don’t even bother to see you off. There’s a lot of factors here you could consider as to why they don’t want to, including their nihilism, but I also think a part of it could be because they don’t think anyone would actually care if they showed up or not. Maybe they don’t want to feel too attached to us when we “inevitably” (in their eyes) abandon them. Or maybe there’s no reason to be too sentimental when you think the end of the world is coming

Regardless, they seem to have a lot of issues when it comes to forming attatchments

Thinking about Fallen London as a backdrop for the theme of the horror of the inevitable today. I know it's The Classic Cosmic Horror Thing, but it's really woven through all aspects of Neathy life even as the PC is written powerful and capable: the constant backdrop of breath-holding for the Sixth City, the Masters and the Bazaar as a force higher on the Chain with a plan that cares not who it tramples, a ton of the Destinies aside from the LotN ones, literally anything to do with the Dawn Machine, the Flukes...the thing that changes you irrevocably could be around any corner, could drop at any second. Everything else, every other story told, is either dealing with that or written in its shadow. Sometimes the game lets you deal with it by fighting back, with the message that even though you can't hold a candle to all of it, you can change some of it and that's enough reason to try. Sometimes, the game lets you deal with it by getting drunk off your ass with a dozen rats and stealing a painting or something of the sort. Both are honestly such valid ways of dealing with The Cosmic Horror Of It All, as is just rolling out of bed every day and complaining about the weather, and the spread of each that the game's writing has is I think what's made it stick so hard as one of my favourite pieces of horror media despite only about 20% of it reading like horror.

i can’t sleep rn so i went to check on smth that’s been haunting me since i rewatched the first las nevadas finale again

so when punz first confronts purpled in his cave, they bring up the fact that quackity had been torturing dream, to which purpled said was an obvious lie, and that he didn’t expect punz to have been stupid enough to believe something like that. the exact dialogue (with some bits in between) is:

punz: did you know that quackity tortured dream for six. months. six WHOLE months, purpled.

purpled: […] and the prison thing is bullshit. you know that they don’t allow ANYONE in there EVER. like, you know this. c’mon, punz, you’re SMARTER than that.

and i found that strange, because i could’ve sworn purpled knew about quackity’s actions. i knew he was gunning for the revival book, obviously, but maybe i’d gotten confused. maybe the in-universe explanation was that he’d heard quackity was after the book from slime without the prison ever having been brought up or something

so i went back to the betrayal, and sure enough, purpled brings up the prison visits when confronting quackity. it’s the first thing he confronts him about actually. and yes, admittedly, there’s no confirmation to purpled knowing about the torture necessarily. he knows as much as slime did, whatever that may have been. however, it’s made clear he does know that quackity had constant visits with dream

i think the ccs likely just forgot, however the in-universe implications are FASCINATING to me because it just goes to show how much of a conniving bitch cpurpled is. he knows quackity was allowed into the prison, and if he didn’t know about the torture, he’s pieced it together thanks to punz’s speech, but he still denies it. he wants to keep what he knows close to his chest and he wants to belittle punz as much as possible. it’s borderline gaslighting, honestly - “no, punz, dream had to be lying to you, no one gets into the prison. c’mon, you’re a smart guy, don’t tell me you’ve fallen for such a stupid story. you’re better than that.” and i love it so so much. purpled already spends that entire interaction insulting punz outright and asserting his own superiority so this added layer of boldly lying to their face is just the cherry on top 💜

Dogstock are typical of what are often deemed the ‘evil’ races in many other fantasy works. They were created by some higher force to be slaves, they are carnivorous by nature, they resemble animals other than human in dentition and build. They growl and bite and walk behind.

The Uhasr (a dogstock culture) are descendants of such slave-infantry that was abandoned when the empire that used them to capture the steppes decided the land wasn’t so profitable after all, and more pressing matters drew their attention elsewhere. Like tools left spent on the ground, the unneeded, excess dogstock were left to survive on their own in Hochkiskuph. The native peoples, of course, did not welcome them any more, or see them any less as oppressors when the hand released the lead. To the Hochkiskuph peoples, the Uhasr are a predatory ghost, an echo that consumes them even in absentia. To the Uhasr, one human is much like another, differing in number and equipment, but never in essence. Uhasr are a species of wild animal with a human face. Humans are prey on two legs. Humans smoke and poison uncovered dens on principle, Uhasr abduct and consume men and women and children all the same.

A common trend I have noticed in media which aims to humanize monsters, is that it often relies on passivity. Humanity is contingent upon kindness. The monster that is A Person only so long as they are a harmless thing at heart, something which can be understood and befriended. Their violence is reluctant, their hearts noble. Grace is a concession to the dominated. Only the toothless beast, declawed and pinioned and caged, is one which has earned its personhood. The ontological enemy supersedes the ontological man.
